To Calculate area:

Length x width = square footage

Triangle: Height x length divided by 2 = square footage

Circle: Radius (center to edge)  x radius x PI (3.141) = square footage

  • How do I estimate how much landscaping material is needed?

  • Measure the length and width of the rectangular area to be covered (in feet) and multiply them by each other. This is your square footage. For instance a 10' by 25' area is 250 square feet,  or a 10' by 10' is 100 square feet. Now for a common 3" depth divide the total square footage by 108  to estimate the yards needed for coverage . For example , 100 square feet divided by 108  is .93- so about 1 yard.

For 1" coverage, divide the square footage by 324

For 2" coverage, divide the square footage by 162

For 3" coverage, divide the square footage by 108

For 4" coverage, divide the square footage by  81

For 5" coverage, divide the square footage by 65

For 6" coverage, divide the square footage by 54

For 7" coverage, divide the square footage by 46

For 8" coverage, divide the square footage by 40

For 9" coverage, divide the square footage by 36

For 10" coverage, divide the square footage by 32.5
For 12" coverage, divide the square footage by 27
